Scholarships

Meriden encourages and supports high achievement across all areas of the curriculum and is committed to nurturing each student’s individual talents.  In addition to its outstanding record of academic achievement, the school is recognised for excellence in cocurricular activities, particularly in the fields of Music and Sport. 

Students from within the Meriden community and students who are studying at other schools are invited to apply for scholarships.

Academic Scholarships for entry in Year 7 in 2014
Academic Scholarships cover full or part tuition fees for up to six years.  Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the School Council Scholarship Committee and are based on the result of the scholarship examination, previous academic record, interview and other criteria, including the potential for involvement in several areas of the life of the school.

Application for an Academic Scholarship for entry in Year 7 in 2014 must be made on-line by clicking on the link below.  Applications close on Friday, 22 February 2013.  The Scholarship examination will be held at Meriden on Saturday, 2 March 2013.

Music Scholarships for entry in Year 7 in 2014
Music Scholarships for voice, piano, band and orchestral instruments cover full or part tuition fees for up to six years and are awarded on the basis of an audition, academic record and interview, at the discretion of the School Council Scholarship Committee.

Junior School (Orchestral) Instrumental Music Scholarships
Successful applicants for Meriden's 5/6 Music Class who are orchestral instrumentalists may be offered a Junior School (Orchestral) Instrumental Scholarship.  Entry into the 5/6 Music Class in 2014 is open to students who are in Years 4 or 5 in 2013 at Meriden or at other Australian schools.

The Betty Stephen Memorial Sport Scholarship
This scholarship is open to a girl who is entering Year 9 in 2014 and who is talented in sport. The scholarship covers 75% of the tuition fees from Year 9 to Year 12. Applicants must submit:
- a copy of the latest school report
- a copy of the Year 7 NAPLAN results
- a portfolio of sporting achievements.

This documentation must be received at the School by the scholarship closing date of Friday, 22 February 2013.

Senior School Scholarship for a Meriden Student
A scholarship worth at least fifty percent of the tuition fees for Years 7 to 12 at Meriden is awarded to the Year 6 Meriden student who achieves the highest result in the scholarship examination.  The recipient of this scholarship may not necessarily be the Dux of the Junior School.

To be eligible for this scholarship, a girl must have been a Meriden student for at least two years.

Meriden Old Girls’ Union Indigenous Bursary
This bursary was established in 2008 by Meriden’s Old Girls’ Union to support Indigenous education at Meriden.  It is open to students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.  The bursary covers part tuition fees depending on individual circumstances.  The selection process includes an interview with the Principal and consideration of the situation of the individual student and her family.  Applicants are expected to support the values of the School and to show evidence of how the student will benefit from a Meriden education.  Recent school report(s) and the contact details of two referees are also required.  Further information about the application process and criteria may be obtained by contacting the Registrar at Meriden on telephone
