Meriden athletes earn 10 championship medals

Meriden's Junior Athletics Championships squad

Despite torrential rain, lightning storms and extreme heat, Meriden athletes were at their best at the ACPE NSW Junior Athletics Championships, picking up five gold, one silver and three bronze medals in a sweep of impressive performances that included nine personal bests.

Bronte Locane, Year 7, won the U14 100m and 200m, both with personal best times.

Nakeisha Brimble, Year 11, won the U18 Triple Jump and placed second in the U18 Long Jump.

Karina Bell, Year 10, threw a personal best in the Javelin to win the U17 event and came fourth in the U17 Shotput. The previous week, she competed at the NSW Open State Championships where she placed third in the Open Discus with a new personal best.

Ada Rand, Year 10, ran her second fastest 800m time to win the U17 event.

Audrey Sutton, Year 9, achieved bronze in both the U15 Long Jump and Triple Jump events with personal best performances.

Ellen Murphy, Year 10, won bronze in the U16 90m Hurdles.

Taking their cues from Head Coach Nicole Boegman-Stewart, our girls demonstrated that hard work pays off, with every athlete on the team performing strongly despite the challenging conditions. The School is proud of all competing members of the squad: Salam Ahmad, Karina Bell, Nakeisha Brimble, Mila Burdett, Bronte Locane, Ellen Murphy, Abigail Omage, Ajaya Owusu, Ada Rand, Alannah Roberts, Amelie Sun and Audrey Sutton.

The Meriden community sends best wishes to Karina Bell, Nakeisha Brimble, Bronte Locane, Ada Rand, Amelie Sun and Audrey Sutton who will compete for NSW at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in April.

Meriden athletes will also compete in the State Little Athletics Championships this weekend. The School sends best wishes to Karina Bell, Nakeisha Brimble, Mila Burdett, Bronte Locane, Abigail Omage, Ajaya Owusu, Ada Rand, Alannah Roberts and Audrey Sutton for this event.
