Meriden students invited to Science Olympiads

Anna Zhou and Shirley Wang

The School community congratulates Year 10 student, Shirley Wang, and Year 11 student, Anna Zhou, who have been recognised as two of the country’s top performing Science students with invitations to the Australian Science Olympiads Summer School. The event will be held virtually and is an enrichment program for secondary school students who perform at the top of their national cohorts in the Australian Science Olympiad Examinations.

Shirley has been invited to attend the Earth and Environmental Sciences Olympiad Summer School and Anna has been invited to the Physics Olympiad Summer School.

The workshops will see the students work with peers and subject specialists from across Australia, receiving intensive tuition in their discipline. The work schedule is intense and covers the equivalent of first-year university studies in Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science and Physics. The Olympiads are an excellent opportunity for students to further their studies and lay the foundations for a career in science.

The ten top-performing students at the Australian Science Olympiad Summer School will be invited to attend a week-long residential camp at the Australian National University in Canberra in April 2021. High-achieving students who perform well in final selection exams will earn a place on the Australian Science Olympiads team and go on to compete at the International Science Olympiads – the Olympic Games for Science students.

Best wishes to Shirley and Anna as they embark on their next scientific endeavour.
