Meriden tennis players named National Claycourt Champions
16 October 2018
Meriden’s junior tennis players are making their mark on the national circuit with two players named 2018 National Junior Claycourt Champions in their respective divisions. Meriden’s Sarah Rokusek and Sienna Leeson joined 128 of Australia’s best junior tennis players for the Junior Claycourt Championships held at the Canberra Tennis Centre from 28 September to 3 October 2018.
Sarah Rokusek claimed the title in the 12/under singles, while team mate Sienna Leeson won the 14/u doubles event and finished in the top sixteen in Australia. Twelve year-old Sarah, who won the Junior Grasscourt Championship in April this year, now holds the national 12/under Champion’s title in both Grasscourt and Claycourt tennis. Sarah has held the highest Australian ranking in her age group for the past three years.
Fellow Meriden tennis player, Subi Surenraj, also put in an impressive performance at the Claycourt Championships. Subi played the number two seed and was up in both her sets but could not close out the match. She finished within the top twenty in the nation and made the quarter finals of the doubles event.
Sarah, Sienna and Subi attend Meriden School in Strathfield and train with Meriden Tennis Academy. The girls participate in the School’s Olympus program which was established over ten years ago to cater for the academic and sporting needs of student-athletes.
