Three Meriden graduates to take up scholarship offers from leading USA universities
17 December 2018
Three of Meriden’s top student-athletes from the Class of 2018 have been awarded scholarships to study at universities in the USA, also enabling them to compete in the highly competitive world of college sport.
Hayley Ballesty and Carla Traplin are two of Meriden’s leading water polo players and both have competed at international level including being integral members of the Australian team at the FINA World Youth Water Polo Championships this year. Hayley has accepted a place at Arizona State University and Carla has accepted a place at University of California, Berkeley (Cal Berkeley).
Meriden’s tennis ace, Violet Apisah, has secured a place at Texas Tech University. Violet is ranked No. 30 in the ITF Junior rankings and this year she competed in the three major Grand Slams – Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open – for the second consecutive year.
Hayley, Carla and Violet have been part of Meriden’s Olympus program which was established more than ten years ago to cater for the academic and sporting needs of student-athletes.
Congratulations Hayley, Carla and Violet; we wish you well as you embark on a new stage in your education journey.
