A reminder for Year 10 parents that subject selection preferences for senior study close next Monday 3rd August. At the recent Subject Selection evening we gave parents a few key messages about choosing the ‘right’ subjects:
- Choose subjects that you are interested in and are good at (or have the skills for)
- Choose subjects that may assist you in your future study options (have multiple in mind and seek tertiary advice if you are unsure of prerequisites)
- Be thoughtful and do your research – ask teachers, older students
- Consider the skills that you will learn in this subject, not just the content
- Keep subject selection in perspective – lots of future options and future pathways
Looking Ahead: Elective Selections for Years 7 and 8
Later in the term, Year 7 and 8 will also begin the process of selecting their electives for 2026. Meriden has a generous elective offering in junior years, and choosing electives for Year 8 and 9 is a great opportunity for girls to explore areas of passion and interest, or try a totally different subject for the first time.
Choosing Subjects for Success
At Meriden, we know from experience that students are more motivated and achieve stronger results when they choose the subjects that they intrinsically enjoy. There are many fallacies about some subjects being more beneficial for results and scaling than others, but we consistently see the girls succeeding in their studies when they choose subjects they are interested in and prepared to diligently apply themselves to.
At Meriden we wholeheartedly believe that each girl is uniquely and wonderfully made and will have her own unique study pathway as a result.

Best Wishes to Year 12 for Trial Examinations
Finally, we wish Year 12 all the very best for their upcoming Trial Examination period. The girls have been briefed on the importance of balance, sleep, practice and following teacher’s revision prompts during this period. If they miss an exam due to illness/ misadventure, they must get in touch with Ms Bass (Dean of Students 10-12) on the day. Year 12, we are praying for you in this period! That you may draw your confidence from the Lord who sustains and keep these exams in perspective. Go well!
