House Choral: More Than Just a Performance

There is something truly special about Term 3. Our campus buzzes with energy and special events, from our recent Back to Meriden Day welcoming back our Alumnae, to HSC showcase nights celebrating our students’ incredible talents in the Creative and Performing Arts, to our Year 12s making the absolute most of their final weeks with a vibrant range of student-led initiatives.

 

If I had to choose a personal highlight of Term 3, it would undoubtedly be House Choral. I have often mentioned that making music isn’t a personal strength, which is perhaps why this tradition holds such deep significance for me.

 

House Choral is so much more than a final performance. It is about the journey and community spirit that music creates.

 

During rehearsals, we watch our talented House Arts Officers, alongside their fellow House Officers, step up and lead. They conceptualise the performance, collaborate with student musicians, and teach the material to their entire House across Years 7–11.

 

The best moment comes at the end of all that hard work on the ICC stage, when every single girl, regardless of her musical background, stands together with her House and performs so willingly and joyfully.

 

Key Notices: Year 12 Graduation and House Choral

On Thursday 24 September, we will celebrate the Graduation of the Class of 2026 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Darling Harbour. This special service will be followed by our annual House Choral Festival (Years 7–11), also hosted at the ICC.

 

On this day:

  • Years 7–11 Arrival and Travel: Students must arrive at School by 8:10am as normal, dressed in full school uniform. Transport to the ICC will be provided by bus.
  • Lunch: Students must bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. Excursion lunch packs can be pre-ordered via Flexischools and collected from the canteen before buses depart.
  • Parent Consent: Please ensure you have accepted the required permission via the Meriden Parent App/Parent Lounge for your daughter to attend the compulsory Year 12 Graduation Service and House Choral Festival.
  • Event Departure (approximately 2:45pm): Following the conclusion of House Choral, students may be dismissed directly from the ICC to make their own way home, or return to Meriden by bus. Please note: Buses returning to Meriden will arrive back after the regular school bus runs.
  • Dismissal Permissions: A permission notification will be pushed out shortly on the Meriden Parent App/Parent Lounge, allowing you to authorise direct dismissal from the ICC. Without this accepted consent, we will assume your daughter will return to Meriden on the school-provided bus.
  • Graduation Musicians: Student musicians performing in the Year 12 Graduation Service will receive alternate morning travel details directly from the Performing Arts Department.
  • Year 12 Arrival: Year 12 students are required to arrive at the ICC Theatre (Level 2 Foyer) no later than 9:00am to check in with Ms Bass and Ms Curran.
