Celebrating 125 years of Meriden

This year we proudly commemorated Meriden’s historic beginnings when Mrs Jeannie Monckton established the school in 1897, with less than twenty students.

Our community marked Meriden’s 125-year anniversary with a range of tributes and special events, which included commemorative badges, the commissioning of an original composition, the opening of a new playground at the Junior School campus, a magnificent Celebration Concert by Junior School musicians, and the opening of the School’s new building, the Greenhalgh Centre for Music and Drama, complete with a lighting installation commissioned to mark the anniversary.

Dr Greenhalgh also took Senior School girls on a historic journey during the year as she shared stories from the School’s archives each week in Assembly. Meriden’s finest musical ensembles topped off the year’s celebrations with a joyous concert at the Sydney Opera House featuring the world premiere of the choral and orchestral work by award-winning composer Oliver John Cameron, commissioned to mark the anniversary – making a fitting testament to how Meriden has grown and thrived in its 125 years.
