Meriden Junior School girls named state swimming champions

Meriden’s Junior Girls Relay Team – Veronica Xu, Jenny Li, Alice Wu and Liliana Zhou

Meriden’s Junior School girls have been crowned New South Wales state champions after winning gold in the 4 x 50-metre Freestyle Relay at the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships.

The team, consisting of Jenny Li, Alice Wu, Veronica Xu and Liliana Zhou, won the event by five seconds and helped to secure Meriden’s best-ever result at the championships.

Jenny Li, Year 5, continued her impressive form in the pool to place third in the 8 to 10 Years 50-metre Butterfly.

Year 6 student, Lucinda Buckley, delivered standout performances in her events, placing equal first in the 12 Years 50-metre Butterfly and finishing in third place in the 12 Years 50-metre Backstroke.

Meriden’s Junior School Sport Coordinator, Ms Belinda Wilsher, said she is immensely proud of the girls who have each shown dedication to their training over the last few months.

“The team performed strongly and delivered an extraordinary display of determination and teamwork on the day. It was wonderful to see the girls support and encourage each other to achieve this historic milestone,” said Belinda.

Lucinda and Jenny have been selected to represent New South Wales in August at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships where they will compete against some of the best swimmers in Australia.

The School congratulates all Meriden girls who participated in the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships and we look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the pool.
