Last week, students in Years 5 and 6 participated in workshops led by clinical psychologists Dr Judith Locke and Dr Danielle Einstein. The sessions helped the girls understand that feeling nervous in uncertain situations is normal and that pushing through challenging situations ultimately builds confidence. The workshops complemented the Parent Forum and professional learning for Meriden staff presented by Dr Locke and Dr Einstein.
At the upcoming Junior School Parent/Teacher Interviews, parents may like to discuss the five essential skills for children that Dr Locke discussed at the Parent Forum: respect, resourcefulness, resilience, self-regulation and responsibility. The skills are explained in Dr Locke’s book, The Bonsai Student, which I highly recommend reading.
The interviews will take place on the afternoons of Monday 6 March and Monday 13 March at the Junior School and Lingwood Campuses. All appointments must be booked through Parent Lounge before 5:00pm on Friday 1 March.
JSA Twilight Picnic
The JSA organised a wonderful Twilight Picnic on Saturday 17 February that many Junior School families attended. Special thanks to the JSA Committee members – Mrs Julia Lee, Mrs Soomi Yang, Mrs Janet Kim and Ms Irene Chiu – for organising the event. Many parents generously volunteered to help on the evening and their support was greatly appreciated.
The next JSA meeting will be on Tuesday 19 March at 8:00am in Selim Library. All parents are welcome to attend as we begin to plan the Mother’s Day stall.
