As Term 3 draws to a close, there are many important events on. In Music, members of ensembles and Performing Arts staff have had a very enjoyable and successful Sydney Eisteddfod season. Tonight (Thursday 20 June) gives the Meriden community an opportunity to experience and support the amazing music that these groups have prepared and performed this year. All are welcome to attend the Ensembles Concert, held in Wallis Auditorium, from 6:00pm.
The last round of Term 2 Sport takes place this Saturday. It has been pleasing to see the skill and experience of the girls in their various pursuits increase amidst a strong sense of camaraderie. Planning and trials for Term 3 sports are already underway.
We have welcomed students and staff from Neutral Junction School this week, one of our partner schools from the Northern Territory. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching week for all involved. The Neutral Junction students have undertaken a variety of activities, including a visit to Taronga Zoo, a ferry ride, sessions in the Junior and Senior Schools, and they are looking forward to watching the AFL on Saturday. In Week 9, we will celebrate NAIDOC Week with a range of activities as we appreciate and celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In Week 1 of Term 3, a group of Year 11 students will go on their immersion trip to Ti Tree. The girls and staff from Meriden and Ti Tree are very excited for the activities and community building planned.
Week 9 also sees the culmination of the Cadets program with the Annual Ceremonial Parade, held at Trinity Grammar School. All cadets attend this event, along with Year 7 students who will spectate. This event celebrates the achievements of the Unit and some individuals, as well as the graduating class of Year 12 Cadets. Year 7 students and Cadets will return to Meriden by bus, by 4:00pm. In the evening, a formal Dining In Night is held for the outgoing Year 12 Cadets. On the last day of term, a group of enthusiastic promotion candidates will undertake their Promotions Course at the Trinity Field Studies Centre in Woollamia. Cadets are encouraged to do their best as they learn about leadership and service – and to pack for a cold weekend.
I hope all girls and their families have a safe, enjoyable and refreshing holiday. Please note that the first day of Term 3 for students is Tuesday 23 July.
