As we begin a new school year, I would like to echo the warm welcome of other senior staff to new and returning families. Earlier this week, teachers spent time collaborating and finalising preparations for the new academic year. As well as looking ahead, we reflected on the achievements of the Class of 2024. I hope you have enjoyed browsing the Academic Highlights Brochure that highlights the HSC success of students across faculty areas and other achievements in Years 7 to 11. The results reflect the girls’ commitment to learning, the expertise and dedication of teachers, and our supportive community.
Professional Learning Focus
Each year, teachers focus on refining strategies to enhance learning. Our professional learning session this week was led by Dr Simon Breakspear, who shared his expertise on the science of learning and the future of teaching. Dr Breakspear completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge and is currently an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at UNSW’s School of Education. He also serves as an advisor to the NSW Department of Education and is a member of the steering committee for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
Dr Breakspear prompted engaging discussions as we reflected on how we can best adapt teaching practices to enhance student learning. A commitment to continuous improvement is a key part of Meriden’s academic success, and it is wonderful to work with such a dedicated teaching staff. I look forward to sharing some of the developments prompted by the professional learning session with you in later newsletters.
