Student Code of Behaviour
We have made some changes to the Student Code of Behaviour / Management Plan this year that can be found on pages 16-18 of the Student Planner. We have done this to allow teachers to prompt students toward appropriate behaviour in class early so that we can identify students who may be struggling or need support.
Your daughter may speak to you about the new ‘demerits’ which teachers may give if students are struggling to remain on task, complete homework or meet behaviour and uniform expectations. We appreciate your support in emphasising to your daughter that this is just a tool for teachers to provide feedback to students and parents. This ensures we have consistent approaches to behaviour to create an effective learning environment for everyone.
Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 11 February the Australian government recognised the global Safer Internet Day initiative. We work hard at Meriden to instil in the girls at Meriden the importance of online safety and upstander behaviours. Sadly, the statistics provided by the eSafety Commissioner highlight that most girls will have an unpleasant online encounter at some point in their adolescence. They are also likely to contribute to hurtful conversations online at some point in their adolescence too. When friendships shift and change, girls can be unkind online, as it is easier than having a difficult conversation face to face.
As a part of this initiative the Office of the eSafety Commissioner offers free webinars for parents and carers about how to keep their children safe online. We encourage all parents to access these resources at the eSafety website.
There are also a range of useful resources for parents that can be accessed here.
Reporting Cyberbullying and Abuse: If you are concered about harmful content that your daughter has been exposed to online, you can report it to the e-Safety commissioner at https://www.esafety.gov.au/report/forms
