At Meriden there is a team of school counsellors to support students who are struggling with their emotions, thinking, learning or behaviour, including mental health concerns.
Parents and staff can refer a student to the school counsellors via the respective Year Coordinator. Students may also self-refer. The provision of school counselling is generally a temporary intervention used to support students who experience the natural ups and downs of adolescence. School counsellors work with the school to support students to learn about and develop social-emotional skills in the school context.
Meriden’s school counsellors meet with students during school hours and use a range of well-established therapeutic approaches to address concerns the student may have on a range of topics, such as friendships, stress, organisation, management of emotions or mental health. The school counselling service offered at Meriden is a secondary and non-diagnostic service with a focus on supporting students during school hours and term-time throughout their enrolment at the school.
Should you feel that your daughter may benefit from the support of a school counsellor, please reach out to her Year Coordinator in the first instance, to raise awareness of the concerns and allow the Year Coordinator to organise a referral.
Girls can also self-refer by emailing counselling@meriden.nsw.edu.au.
At times, girls may feel insecure or unsure about reaching out for help, but at Meriden, we encourage them to seek support when they need it so that they can acknowledge the hard parts of life and develop the skills they need to overcome adversity and challenge.
