This term in the Pastoral Time lessons, girls in the Senior School have reflected on a range of topics relevant to their stage. As we head into the term break, I encourage you to ask your daughter what she has learnt or reflected on in these sessions with her Tutor Group.

Year 7: In their ‘Strong Foundations’ program, Year 7 students have spent time learning the knowledge and skills needed to successfully navigate the transition to high school and understanding Meriden culture. We have been impressed with how confidently they have navigated this transition.

Year 8: Year 8 students began their program, ‘Challenge Yourself’, in which they reflected on areas of their life they find challenging, trying new things and making mistakes. We are encouraging the girls to step outside their comfort zones and try a new cocurricular activity as a part of our challenge themed year.

Year 9: In their ‘Looking Outward’ program, Year 9 girls have begun to identify their values and strengths, and started reflecting on the concept of service, in preparation for their service activities program beginning in Term 2. It has been encouraging to hear stories of the girls reflecting on what has shaped their values and passions.

Year 10: Year 10 students have begun to consider how they ‘Find their Voice’ and exercise everyday leadership, and identify their passions and women they look up to in their lives. It has been wonderful to see so many Year 10 students take up the opportunity to become Year 10 Ambassadors and put into practice their reflections on stepping into leadership and role model roles in the school.

Year 11: As they began their senior studies, Year 11 girls undertook the ‘Stepping Up’ program in which they consider how to manage stress, negative self-talk and develop a healthy mindset and routines. We held a panel discussion last week in which some of the Meriden staff shared strategies to avoid burning out.

Year 12: Year 12 students continued the ‘Stepping Out’ program that they started in Term 4, which provides the girls with practical advice, discussions and skills for students on a range of topics such as financial planning, health, workplace rights and public engagement. There are many girls going into the election season prepared to exercise their democratic skills!
