Before the HSC can be awarded, students need to reach a minimum standard in reading, writing and numeracy. Achievement of the minimum standard is demonstrated through online tests that are administered at school under supervised conditions. Each test is allocated 45 minutes and assesses the skills that students need to complete everyday tasks.

The girls can begin sitting online tests in Year 10, well before commencing their Year 12 studies. Students in Years 10 and 11 who need to re-sit the tests can do so up to four times per year, while Year 12 students may sit for each test up to six times per year. This approach ensures all students are given multiple opportunities to reach the minimum standard. Students reattempting a test in the same domain must wait at least 30 calendar days after their previous attempt.

Mrs Nicole Hearne, Dean of Studies, oversees the testing, which begins this term for Year 10 students.  Mrs Hearne met with Year 10 students on Monday to provide information and guidance about the process, including how to download the lockdown browser.
