Subject selection in Term 3
The Year 10 Subject Selection Evening will be held tonight. Choosing subjects for Years 11 and 12 is an important part of the transition to the senior years. This evening will be an important night for Year 10 parents to understand the senior study experience, how the ATAR is calculated, the subject selection process and the approach that their daughter should take in selecting the most appropriate subjects.
Later in the term, students in Years 7 and 8 will also begin the process of selecting their electives for 2026.
At Meriden, we know from experience that students are more motivated and achieve stronger results when they choose the subjects that they intrinsically enjoy. There are many fallacies about some subjects being more beneficial for results than others, but we consistently see the girls succeeding in their studies when they choose subjects that they are interested in and prepared to diligently apply themselves to.
Study skills
This Term, students in Years 8 and 10 will be undertaking a study skills program in their weekly Pastoral sessions to assist them in developing a range of strategies they can use when preparing for assessments and examinations. This program was developed by Meriden staff and is designed to provide students with confidence in their study routines. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to study, and students need to try a range of techniques to find what works best for them. We encourage parents to ask their daughters what they are learning in the program and what techniques they might apply as they look towards their Semester 2 examinations.
