Teachers teaching teachers
This week, Senior School staff held a Teach Meet Professional Learning afternoon. It was a great afternoon of teacher collaboration and learning. Some of the sessions that were run included using virtual reality headsets, understanding ADHD, embodied learning, effective classroom routines, reducing student’s cognitive load, understanding the ATAR and scaling, and many more!
Teachers from a range of departments generously volunteered their time to share their expertise with their colleagues.
What struck me afresh at the Teach Meet is how passionate and skilled our teaching staff are about understanding the science of learning and helping their students to grow in confidence, understanding and progress academically. A huge thanks to the Senior School teaching staff who ran sessions. Your commitment to ongoing learning and growth is a wonderful example to our students about the importance of lifelong learning.
A few teacher reflections from the afternoon are captured below:
“I can’t wait to use the VR headsets for a WWI trenches experience with Year 9!”
“Mrs Nicole Hearne’s session was very insightful and informative. I have learnt many new and interesting facts about the elusive ATAR and overall, just enjoyed her delivery of the content!”
“It was great to hear about ideas on how to develop classroom routines that boost students’ learning capacity and wellbeing.”
“Dr Jocelyn Laurence’s presentation on ADHD was so heartfelt, informative and very well presented. I want to learn more – I was inspired by her presentation.”
