“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”
Matthew 6:34
It is perfectly normal for young people to go through seasons where they feel unsettled, face friendship concerns, experience health challenges, struggle with behaviour, or feel particularly stretched by academic or pastoral demands.
The encouraging news is that, in most cases, these challenges are temporary. They offer valuable opportunities for learning and resilience-building and can be understood as important stages in your daughter’s personal and emotional development. To put it simply, they are a season.
We often notice that a concern that felt overwhelming last week is soon replaced by a new challenge. This does not mean we minimise what a young person is feeling; it simply reminds us that worries can change and pass, and there are consistent truths and support systems we can rely on during these times.
Key reminders to hold onto, that I consistently find myself speaking with students and parents about:
- You are not alone. We have supported many students through similar challenges. Trust in our experience and the processes we have in place to care for your daughter.
- Your daughter is surrounded by support. She has a strong network of staff, peers, and systems in place that are committed to her wellbeing.
We want to help you feel confident in reassuring your daughter and knowing where to turn if concerns arise. Below are some practical steps:
- For wellbeing concerns encourage your daughter to reach out to our pastoral care team, beginning with the team of people who know her best: her Tutor Group teacher, Assistant Year Coordinator, or Year Coordinator.
- Stay in the loop by checking your daughter’s Planner regularly. The Planner provides helpful updates on homework completion, class participation, punctuality, and daily preparedness.
- Remind your daughter that demerits and detentions are not to be viewed as harsh punishments or labels. They are tools used to redirect behaviour, reinforce expectations, and support students in making positive choices.
- Find comfort that when needed your daughter can access additional support. Our qualified and compassionate counselling team is available to support students and, where needed, help initiate external pathways for care.
