Teachers learn, too!
This week in the Senior School at Meriden, we launched our new Professional Growth Teams for teachers as part of our ongoing professional development program. These teams are led by teachers who are committed to improving academic, social, and emotional outcomes for the girls at Meriden.
At Meriden, we are so fortunate to have dedicated teachers who are willing to continue improving their practice in response to emerging research. These groups have been developed by staff in response to what we see are some of the key areas that are specific and relevant to our learners at Meriden.
Below is a list of the Professional Growth Team topics:
- Building students’ oracy capabilities for learning
- Using data to improve student learning outcomes
- Building literacy skills through explicit teaching
- Building academic confidence in students
- Developing strategies for more effective classroom discussions
- Using eVe to design formative assessment activities
- Teaching to the top – extending high potential learners
- Developing numeracy confidence through graphing
- Using explicit teaching techniques to inspire curious learners
- Providing effective written feedback
I share this with our parent community to highlight the commitment of our staff to ensuring that every girl is challenged and stretched in her learning. We recognise that every girl has a different experience of learning and academic growth. Most importantly, we want to instil academic confidence and curiosity in all our students. My thanks go to the teachers who are leading this professional dialogue this term.
