What should I ask at Parent/Teacher interviews?
Parent/Teacher interviews for 2026 have commenced this week, with Year 12 having completed their final interviews, and Year 7 interviews coming up on Tuesday 24 March in Week 9. With only a five-minute time slot, it is important to think about what questions might be most helpful to ask before the interview. Take time to ask your daughter how she is finding her learning in each subject before attending the interviews. Below are a few suggestions that will help you to get valuable feedback from teachers about your daughter’s progress so far this year:
- What strengths/interest is she showing in this subject?
- What skills does she need to develop further? What are her areas of improvement?
- How does she approach her learning in the classroom (i.e. organisation, interactions with peers, behaviour)?
- Is there any additional support she needs in this subject? How can I support her learning at home?
If you are concerned about your daughter’s academic progress across a range of subjects or wish to raise any learning support questions, please contact our Dean of Academic Care, Ms Sascha Bass – sbass@meriden.nsw.edu.au
NAPLAN
This week, students in Years 7 to 9 will participate in the annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) from Wednesday 11 March to Friday 13 March. NAPLAN is designed to measure student progress in literacy and numeracy skills over time, and to help identify strengths and areas for improvement. Please reassure your daughter that the work already completed at school is sufficient preparation and that she does not need to do any further study for NAPLAN. We appreciate your assistance in keeping NAPLAN in perspective. While it provides helpful data for us as teachers, it is not something that the girls need to be worried about.
If your daughter is away due to illness, we have a limited window of time to allow her to sit the test. Girls competing in the IGSA Swimming and Diving Carnival on Friday 13 March will complete the numeracy assessment on Monday 16 March.
