Parent-Tutor Meetings
“When schools, families and communities work together, students are more likely to succeed.”
– Joyce L. Epstein, Professor of Education, Johns Hopkins University
On Monday 20 April, we held our Year 7 – 10, Parent–Tutor Meetings via Microsoft Teams. These meetings provided a valuable opportunity for families to connect with pastoral teachers, and it was wonderful to see parents and carers take the time to engage in these conversations.
At Meriden, pastoral care is brought to life through a strong and carefully considered structure. As Head of Student Wellbeing, I have the privilege of working closely with our Dean of Pastoral Care, alongside our highly committed Year Coordinators. Together, we work with our pastoral tutors to ensure every student is known, supported and cared for.
Every student at Meriden belongs to one of our ten Houses, and within each year group there are two tutor groups per House, each led by a dedicated teacher who acts as the student’s pastoral tutor. These tutors are a consistent presence in students’ lives, seeing them daily at Assembly, Chapel, House meetings and during dedicated pastoral time.
Our pastoral tutors are a trusted source of support and play a vital role in nurturing wellbeing, building strong relationships and strengthening students’ sense of belonging and connection at Meriden.
The Parent–Tutor Meetings provided a meaningful opportunity for families to meet their daughter’s pastoral tutor and strengthen connections between home and school. Thank you to those who were able to attend and further build this partnership. We hope to provide additional opportunities for families to connect with pastoral tutors if they were unable to attend. In the meantime, please know that your Year Coordinator is your first point of contact should you have any pastoral concerns.
The Pastoral Team are grateful to be part of such a supportive and connected community and value the important role families play in the pastoral life of Meriden.
