Learning Showcases and Language Open Classrooms in Terms 2 and 3
The girls have settled into Term 2 with familiar routines, growing friendships, and a real sense of belonging in their classrooms. That foundation is what allows them to take on new challenges with confidence and to lean into their learning with purpose.
One of the highlights of Terms 2 and 3 will be our Learning Showcases, where every girl from Pre‑Kindergarten to Year 6 will have the opportunity to share her learning with her parents.
Preparing work for a real audience changes the nature of learning. Research consistently shows that when students perceive their work as connected to readers and viewers beyond the classroom, their engagement, motivation, and quality of thinking all increase. The girls become more careful in how they communicate their ideas and more willing to revise and refine their work. Just as importantly, the Showcases value the process of learning, not only the finished product. We want you to see the thinking behind the work: the questions your daughter asked, the choices she made, and the strategies she used along the way.
We saw this at the Year 5 Showcase earlier this week. The girls were confident and articulate as they talked us through their thinking, the choices they made, and what they had learned.
After the success of last year’s Singing Showcases, I am pleased to introduce our Language Open Classrooms for the first time. Parents of girls in Years 3 to 6 will be warmly invited into the French and Chinese classrooms. Mme Owen, Mme Parent, Miss Zhu, Miss Qiao, and Mrs Liu have been thoughtfully designing experiences that give you a window into how language acquisition is taught at Meriden.
Mother’s Day
Thank you to the JSA team, led by our President, Mrs Julia Lee, and the many volunteers whose work made the Mother’s Day Stalls such a success.
To all the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and significant women in our girls’ lives, I wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday. You are role models for the girls every day, and so much of who our girls are becoming has been shaped by your love and care.
