Semester 1 has been a full and rewarding one for our girls. They have taken on new learning and worked through challenges, and we are proud of their efforts.

Your daughter’s Semester 1 Report will be sent by email on the last day of Term 2, providing an overview of her progress, her next steps for learning and her Semester 1 attendance record. Her Report is one of the ways we share your daughter’s progress with you. As you read it, you might find it helpful to consider her effort, resilience, and learning goals alongside her academic growth.

If your daughter receives consistent grades across semesters, this indicates she is making progress. As she moves through the year, the expectations and complexity within each grade level increase. A ‘Sound’ achievement in Semester 1 represents mastery of more sophisticated concepts and skills than a ‘Sound’ grade from the previous year. When your daughter consistently achieves at the same level, she is making expected progress by successfully meeting the increasingly challenging expectations at each stage of her learning.

In our conversations with the girls, we keep the focus on their next steps and their learning goals, rather than on grades. This helps them think about what is within their control: the effort they bring, the questions they ask, and the progress they make over time. Carol Dweck’s research on growth mindset shows that when children focus on learning and improving rather than on how they are performing, they respond to difficulty by staying engaged and persisting.

Our teachers look forward to meeting with you at Parent – Teacher Interviews, held early in Term 3. These conversations are an opportunity to discuss your daughter’s progress, to hear how she is going from your perspective, and to talk together about the next steps in her learning.
