On Wednesday evening of Week 1 next term, Year 11 students and their parents are invited to attend our Having a Successful HSC Evening. This important event marks the beginning of the transition into Year 12 and will provide practical information about the HSC year ahead, including how HSC marks and the ATAR are calculated, the role of school-based assessment and examinations, and balancing the demands of the final year of school.
Most importantly, the evening will encourage students to approach the HSC year with perspective, confidence and a strong sense of shared purpose as a cohort. Year 12 is a demanding year, but students will be well supported by their teachers, Pastoral Tutors, academic staff and tertiary pathways team. We look forward to partnering with students and families as they begin this final stage of their school journey.
Major works presentations will be in various classrooms from 5:15pm and a presentation from Mrs Brown, Mrs Chilton and Ms Bass in Wallis Auditorium at 6:00pm.
Learning During the Term Break
As the holidays approach after a busy Term 3 at Meriden, it is important for students to enjoy a well-earned break while continuing to engage their minds in meaningful and enjoyable ways. Learning does not stop when the school term ends. In fact, some of the richest learning opportunities occur when students have the time, freedom (and sometimes boredom!) to pursue their own interests beyond the classroom.
Reading is one of the best holiday habits we can encourage. Whether students are reading a novel, biography, magazine, or non-fiction text, regular reading expands vocabulary, deepens knowledge, and nurtures imagination. The break is also an opportunity for girls to step away from the intensity of the school routine and enjoy time outdoors, whether through sport, walking, swimming, or simply spending time in fresh air with family and friends.
Creative activities provide powerful opportunities for growth and align closely with the curiosity, independence and breadth of learning we value at Meriden. Writing stories, keeping a journal, creating artwork, designing projects, baking, building, or learning a new skill all foster creativity and confidence. Likewise, practising a musical instrument, preparing for cocurricular commitments, or pursuing a personal interest can renew the girls’ passions for their areas of expertise.
Holidays should also include genuine rest. Sleep and downtime are essential for wellbeing and allow the brain to consolidate the learning of the previous term.
As Meriden girls head into the holiday period, we encourage them to make time to read, create, practise, explore, and rest. Some of the most valuable learning happens when there is space to pursue it freely, and the holidays offer students a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the joy of learning at their own pace. Enjoy a well-earned rest from routine after a busy term girls!
