Understanding the NCCD: Supporting Every Student’s Learning

What is the NCCD?

Each year, all Australian schools participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD is a nationwide process that recognises the supports and adjustments schools provide to ensure students with disability can access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.

 

How the Information is Collected

The collection is based on information that schools already gather as part of their everyday practice. It aligns with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, and reflects the adjustments and support currently being provided to students.

 

Information submitted to the Australian Government includes a student’s year level, the broad category of disability (physical, cognitive, sensory, or social/emotional), and the level of adjustment provided. Adjustment levels are classified as Quality Differentiated Teaching Practice, Supplementary, Substantial, or Extensive.

 

Why the NCCD Matters

The NCCD plays an important role in helping schools formally recognise the support provided to students with disability and reflect on how these supports can be strengthened. It also encourages schools to develop shared understandings and consistent practices that improve learning experiences and educational outcomes for all students.

 

Privacy and Confidentiality

Importantly, the NCCD is not a test. The information collected is confidential and is used to support school planning and funding decisions at a national level. Further information will be shared via the Parent App and to learn more about the NCCD, please visit www.nccd.edu.au .
