Making waves in Water Polo
16 June 2015
Many would think the winter months is a time to stay clear of a swimming pool, it has been so far a very busy time for our Water Polo girls who have commenced their winter club seasons and for some of our girls taking part in representational games and tournaments for their state and country.
Both Cathryn Prout and Brooke McClean represented NSW at the Australian All Schools tournament, with NSW dominating the tournament and eventually winning. Both Brooke and Cathryn had excellent tournaments, with Brooke being named as the grand final MVP and eventually going on to be selected in the Australian All Schools teams to play in South Africa in December. With this happening Mollie Williams (pictured) has continued her stellar form and is currently representing the Born 98 Australian team in Germany and Turkey. Mollie’s selection is based on trials and testing conducted over the past 24 months. Macy Hansford and Tori Workman have both been selected in the NSW Waratahs team as a result of their excellent tournaments earlier this term. This is the first state team selection for both girls.
Not to be outdone, we have four Water Polo stars of the future in Freja Newman, Victoria Barlow, Alicia Molesworth and Lana Reiter. All four girls have commenced the winter competition for Drummoyne Water Polo club. Over the past five years, some of our strongest girls have gone through this club, including: Shannan Martin, Fiona Walsh and Sarah Harnwell.
