Accolade for Meriden’s Music staff

The Australian Music Examinations Board NSW has awarded Meriden’s Music Department a Certificate of Distinction for a top ten result in the category of Most Outstanding Accredited School across all grades and instruments. The prestigious accolade recognises the teaching excellence of the School’s Music Department staff, based on the number and performance of students from Meriden who undertook AMEB examinations in 2019.

Ms Jodie Spooner-Ryan, Director of Music, said she is immensely proud of the Music Department staff who deliver a program that sees students gain fulfilment from music and perform to an exceptional standard.

“Meriden students have access to a highly-trained team of specialised music staff and every student experiences the expert guidance of those working in our thriving program,” she said.

“We have more than 500 girls involved in performing ensembles and a rigorous classroom music program in place for students from Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 12. Thanks to the skill and dedication of our staff, every Meriden student experiences a high-calibre, well-rounded music education during her time at school.”

Last year, Meriden enrolled more than seventy students in AMEB exams with outstanding results in all levels including the prestigious AMusA and LMusA awards.

Mrs Carolyn Mirabito, Music Academy Administrator, coordinated all these enrolments, in addition to managing the movements of four hundred students who undertake Performing Arts lessons each week with more than thirty different tutors.

Mrs Mirabito said her aim was to cater to the unique needs and goals of all students involved in Performing Arts at Meriden.

“The Music Academy staff share a common goal and that is to ensure the students are feeling prepared, relaxed and confident going into their lessons and their exams,” she said.

“We host several recitals at School each year to provide students with performance experience and to help them feel more confident on stage. At Meriden, we have some of the best music tutors in Sydney and I’m proud to be able to work with them and see our students grow under their mentorship.”

Meriden congratulates the Music Department on this recognition of their exceptional work ethic and commitment to our students.
