Meriden victorious at National Schools Tennis Challenge

Meriden players and coaching staff at the 2022 National Schools Tennis Challenge

Meriden has taken out the coveted title of Australia’s top schoolgirls’ tennis team after winning the 2022 National Schools Tennis Challenge. Over four days, our Senior School tennis players gave their all on the court in the tough competition to claim the championship title for the eighth time.

The tournament brings together the rising stars of tennis from across Australia to compete for the national title. This year, more than 130 students from eleven girls’ schools returned to Albury for the competition for the first time since 2019.

Meriden was the only girls’ school that had two teams qualify to compete in the tournament. Each player delivered stand-out performances and helped to secure Meriden in first and fourth place overall.

Meriden holds the Australian Schools Tennis Championship record as the only school to win the title eight times. Congratulations to every student who represented the School in this competition.

The victorious team will represent Australia next year at the World Schools Tennis Championship, an event that showcases the best young players from around the world. Meriden has represented Australia three times at this international event and won the gold medal in Qatar in 2015.

The School looks forward to supporting our players as they prepare for this prestigious tournament.

The following girls made up Meriden’s 2022 National Schools Tennis Challenge teams:

Meriden Team 1: Elektra Arseniou (10), Piper Freeman (12), Giselle Guillen (8), Sienna Leeson (11), Sarah Mazaraki (12) and Indiya McLeod (12).

Meriden Team 2: Gabriela Garipova (9), Abigail Gunawan (8), Nina Krecklenberg (11), Jizelle Sibai (7), Soha Singh (11) and Miranda Xu (10).
