Pre-Kindergarten students learn about local communities

The Turtles class ready for their excursion on the Meriden bus

Meriden’s youngest students formed new connections in their communities as part of their very first school excursion.

Each year, Pre-Kindergarten girls ride on the Meriden bus to explore Strathfield and Burwood, as a unit of inquiry within the scope of Human Society and Its Environment. The students learn about important places within the suburbs and observe the people and features in the community.

In the most recent excursion, girls enjoyed experiencing their first excursion while learning about their local communities and extending their learning beyond the classroom. By recognising familiar landmarks and places, girls grow in their sense of who they are and where they live, an important educational milestone.

They also experienced a sense of accomplishment from achieving such a trip during the school day, and returned to Meriden excited to share stories about the trip out.
