Meriden’s Tennis squad has retained its title as Tildesley Tennis champions for the 16th consecutive year, with Meriden girls taking out first and second places in the doubles event and retaining the singles title.
Year 11 student Giselle Guillen retained the title as singles champion for the second consecutive year, after an outstanding performance in the final. Despite being down a break, Giselle fought her way back into the match displaying exceptional composure and courage, winning the match 8-6.
The doubles tournament saw an all-Meriden final.
Delivering consistently strong performances throughout the competition, Gabriela Garipova, Year 12, and Aimee Jin, Year 9, defeated Jessica Dimovski and Georgia Massey, Year 11, 8-5. The girls’ win marked another milestone for the school, with Meriden taking out the top two positions in the doubles matches for 16 consecutive years.
Tildesley is a team effort that requires hard work, consistency and dedication to training in the lead-up to the competition. The tournament, which has been running for over a century, brings together students from independent girls’ schools across Sydney.
Every player contributes to her team’s overall score, with the Tildesley Tennis Shield awarded to the school with the highest point average. Meriden was announced the overall winners of the tournament, retaining the prestigious Tildesley Tennis Shield for the 16th year running.
Meriden had 24 players competing in the tournament this year under the guidance of Mr Brian Ly, Head Coach – Tennis.

Year 9 – Valentyna Rosa, Aimee Jin, Mira Arvind, Anaise Maka, Saoirse Funston
