French students brought their latest unit of work to life as they stepped into an authentic Parisian café experience during a special Petit Déjeuner incursion.
The Meriden Staff Common Room was transformed into a charming French café, complete with red-and-white chequered tablecloths, classic café décor and the sounds of Edith Piaf and Charles Trenet creating a delightful Parisian atmosphere.
Learning French Through Authentic Experiences
Students were immersed in the French language from the moment they arrived. Monsieur Harris and Madame Rodriguez guided them through authentic café interactions, encouraging students to order their breakfast in French using phrases they had learnt in class. Students confidently requested drinks and pastries such as jus d’orange, chocolat chaud, pain au chocolat and tartines, while also practising polite conversational exchanges and expressions of gratitude.
The experience extended beyond the breakfast table, with students enjoying a Parisian-themed photo station before finishing the morning with an enthusiastic singalong to Joe Dassin’s much-loved classic, Les Champs-Élysées.
Students thoroughly embraced the experience, with many sharing their excitement afterwards:
