NAPLAN
Next week, students in Years 7 and 9 will sit NAPLAN tests from Wednesday 15 March to Friday 17 March. NAPLAN tests are conducted by ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) across Australia. The tests are in Term 1 this year rather than Term 2, so the results will be available sooner for schools and parents. The purpose of the testing is to measure student progress over time and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student in the core learning areas of literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN tests do not require preparation outside of class, so please reassure your daughter that the work completed in class is excellent preparation.
Online NAPLAN tests are adaptive, meaning that while students begin with a similar set of questions, subsequent questions are easier or harder depending on the accuracy of their answers. Each student’s experience is likely to be slightly different, meaning that it is possible to conduct catch-up tests. If your daughter is away due to illness, we have a limited window of time to allow her to sit the test, and students can expect to complete missed tests on their return to School.
All the equipment needed to complete the tests, apart from a pen for working out, will be provided. Each student will receive a set of headphones for tests that contain an audio file. Calculators will appear on the screen as required.
We are encouraging the girls to keep NAPLAN in perspective and appreciate your support.
