Mr Loane
Head of Campus

As we progress into the second half of the term, it is timely to remind all parents to please drive slowly in and around the School and to follow the instructions of Meriden staff. Our new Design and Creative Arts (DaCA) building project has commenced, which has increased the need to be vigilant around the School when picking up and dropping off your daughter.

The Archdale Debating season is advancing to the finals. Several Meriden teams have successfully progressed to the first round of the finals. It has been a great season of debating so far. Girls are encouraged to join the Debating Club as new or returning students to develop their skills.

Our Chess teams are also taking part in the online IGSA Competition each Friday afternoon. It has been encouraging to see many girls honing their chess skills in the competition.

The Athletics Team has been training in earnest and competed for the last four Friday evenings at the IGSA Twilight series at ES Marks Athletics Field. The team will compete in the IGSA Athletics Championships on Thursday 24 August in the afternoon, followed by a full day of competition on Friday 25 August, at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Year 7 students will support the team as spectators on Friday 25 August.

In Cadets news, Year 7 students will have the opportunity to sign up for the 2023/2024 training year, commencing in Term 4. Mrs Fiona Brennan, Coordinator of Cadets, has addressed the year group and an invitation to join is available on Parent Lounge. Year 7 students are encouraged to carefully consider their commitment to the program. Many students are part of Music ensemble groups. Due to the substantial commitment required, girls are advised to engage in just one program, either Cadets or Music. Cadets who attended the Annual Promotions Camp at the end of Term 2 are invited to Trinity Grammar School for the leadership posting announcement on Wednesday 23 August.

Two exciting community events will take place in the coming weeks. The Old Girls’ Union (OGU) is holding ‘Back to Meriden’ Day on Saturday 26 August. We look forward to welcoming many former students back on-site. Further details about this event can be found elsewhere in this newsletter. The Parents and Friends’ Association Father’s Day Breakfast will be held on Tuesday 29 August in the Bell Garden. The Junior School Auxiliary is hosting an equivalent event in the Junior School. Both events are most enjoyable, and fathers, grandfathers and father figures are encouraged to attend.
