Mr Loane
Head of Campus

The Years 8 and 9 Camps are just around the corner. Parents have received a letter with information relating to the camps. The following paragraph is included in the letter:

Outdoor Education is an integral component of the learning journey through Meriden, providing students with the opportunity to challenge themselves, deepen friendships and explore the Christian faith surrounded by the beauty of nature. Camps form part of an integrated and sequential outdoor education program, educating the whole person so that each girl can achieve her potential.

Much planning has gone into the camps, and they promise to be a most rewarding experience for the girls and staff participating.

Please note the following:

Year 9 Camp: Monday 6 November – Wednesday 8 November, Port Hacking (Youthworks)

Girls should arrive at school no later than 8:00am on Monday 6 November. Girls will return on Wednesday 8 November, at approximately 2:30pm.

Year 8 Camp: Wednesday 8 November – Friday 10 November, Shoalhaven (Youthworks)

Girls should arrive at school no later than 7:00am on Wednesday 8 November. Girls will return on Friday 10 November, at approximately 4:00pm.

Last weekend, the annual IGSA Festival of Speech was held. Highlights included Protiti Karmaker, Year 8, placing fourth in the Junior Readings event and Reshmi Ramana, Year 9, placing fourth in the Junior Poetry event.

Last Wednesday, the NSW Schools Athletics Challenge took place, and our four Athletics teams delivered exceptional performances. Numerous personal bests were achieved, and a number of medals were earned. The Senior Team placed first, the Intermediate Team placed third, the Junior A Team placed second and the Junior B Team placed twelfth. Congratulations to the girls in these squads, in particular the Year 12 students who competed while juggling their HSC exams. A full report is included elsewhere in this newsletter.

The Parents and Friends’ Association will hold their Annual General Meeting on Monday 6 November at 6:00pm in the Boardroom, located on level 2 of the GCMD. As is customary, all positions are declared vacant and need to be filled. I would like to encourage members of the Meriden community to consider joining this valuable committee. The Parents and Friends’ Association meets monthly and organises a range of community events, including the Mother’s Day Breakfast and the Father’s Day Breakfast. For further details about the association and the various roles to be filled, please contact the President, Stephen Howison, via email at s_howison@yahoo.com.au.
