Learning to be responsible digital citizens is a vital part of living in a digital age. Junior School teaching programs proactively address some of the issues that can occur when using technology, such as cyberbullying, unwanted contact or exposure to offensive content, by teaching students how to be safe online and how to report concerns and obtain help.

These topics were explored in depth by Years 4 to 6 in Term 1, through engaging sessions facilitated by Senior Constable Gary Farrelly, Youth Engagement Officer. The workshops provided the students with strategies about strong privacy settings online, not sharing photos or videos with identifying information, and who to tell if they encounter something that activates their early warning signs.

The ThinkUKnow Australia program, developed by the Australian Federal Police, has helpful resources and factsheets for parents and carers about children’s online safety.
