As we approach the end of Term 1, I want to acknowledge the hard work, perseverance and determination that our girls have shown throughout this term. These qualities have enabled the girls to thrive, whether embracing challenging learning opportunities in the classroom or participating enthusiastically in cocurricular activities.
The upcoming holidays provide an opportunity for the girls to rest and recharge. One of my preferred ways to relax is to read, and I am looking forward to sharing some of my favourite holiday reads with the girls after the break. I encourage all families to set aside daily reading time, whether independent reading for older students or shared reading experiences for our younger girls. Holiday borrowing is available from both the Lingwood and Selim libraries, with our older girls permitted to borrow additional books.
It was my pleasure to attend the Senior School’s production of Seussical last Friday night. The entire performance was impressive, but what particularly moved me was seeing so many former Junior School girls on stage. During the performance, I was sitting next to a Kindergarten student who sat, eyes transfixed on the stage, throughout the show. She was only one of many Junior School girls in the audience, clearly captivated by the excitement of the show.
One of the many benefits of a Pre-K to Year 12 education is that our youngest girls are provided with role models and a glimpse of what they might accomplish in the coming years. The Senior School productions offer insights into the opportunities that await our Junior School students. Seussical beautifully captured the progression of musical and theatrical skills that our dedicated teaching staff nurture throughout the girls’ Meriden journey.
The Junior School Easter Chapel service, held at Wallis Auditorium on Monday, provided an opportunity to gather together to pray and reflect. Our Year 6 SCG team, supported by Ms Elizabeth Wise and Mrs Ashleigh Burge, played a pivotal part in the service and helped the girls connect the miracles that Jesus performed through his ministry with the Easter story.
Looking ahead to next term, I would like to remind all parents that Term 2 will commence on Tuesday 29 April. All girls should return in their winter uniform, and I encourage you to please check that all items fit correctly. Girls need to wear their blazers to and from school each day.
I wish all our families a safe and restful break. I hope these holidays provide opportunities for your daughters to play, rest and read. I look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 2.
