Athletics Coast 2 Coast International Meet
Five Meriden students recently competed at the fourth annual Coast 2 Coast Athletics Meet, held at the Gold Coast Performance Centre in Runaway Bay.
It was another successful competition for the girls, who competed against high school students from the United States, as well as athletes from across Queensland and interstate.
The team returned with two gold, two silver and one bronze medal, along with 10 personal best performances. Highlights included Prapthi (100m hurdles) and Indiana (4kg shot put), who both achieved performances above the national qualifying standards for their respective events.
Results:
- Gold: Under 18 4 x 400m Relay
- Silver: Under 18 4 x 100m Relay
- Indiana (Year 11): Gold Open Shot Put (personal best), Bronze Under 18 Shot Put
- Amber (Year 9): Silver Under 16 High Jump and Shot Put (personal bests in the 100m, 90m hurdles and javelin)
- Prapthi (Year 11): Personal bests in the 100m and 100m hurdles
- Pratithi (Year 11): Personal bests in the 100m and Triple Jump
- Leah (Year 9): Personal bests in the 90m hurdles and javelin
Term 3 IGSA Athletics
The IGSA Athletics season is now well underway. The Athletics squad is preparing for the IGSA Athletics Championships, which will be held in Week 5 on Friday 21 August. The squad is also competing in four Friday evening twilight meets, with final team selections shortly taking place.
NSW CIS and NSW All Schools Cross Country
Eight Meriden students represented Meriden and IGSA at the NSW CIS Cross Country Championships, held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.
In cool and slightly wet conditions, the girls performed strongly, with four students selected to compete at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships, which were held at the same venue.
Congratulations to Alexis (Year 7), Leticia (Year 8), Kyah and Sienna (Year 10), and Mia, Lillian, Julia and Holly (Year 11) on their performances at the NSW CIS Championships. The top 10 athletes in each age group earned selection to represent CIS.
NSW CIS Cross Country Championship Results:
- Alexis: 5th, 13 Years, 3000m
- Leticia: 7th, 14 Years, 4000m
- Kyah: 11th, 16 Years, 4000m
- Sienna: 15th, 16 Years, 4000m
- Mia: 29th, 16 Years, 4000m
- Lillian: 43rd, 16 Years, 4000m
- Julia: 7th, 17 Years, 4000m
- Holly: 11th, 17 Years, 4000m (selected following a withdrawal)
The 16 Years girls also competed in the team event for IGSA and finished second overall.
NSW All Schools Cross Country
Meriden celebrated a milestone achievement this year, with four students competing in the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships for the first time.
Familiar with the course, the girls continued their strong performances from the NSW CIS Championships, with Julia and Holly both improving their placings within the CIS team.

- Alexis, 15th, 13 years 3000m (8th CIS)
- Leticia, 14th, 14 years 4000m (7th CIS)
- Julia, 19th, 17 years 4000m (6th CIS)
- Holly, 22nd, 17 years 4000m (7th CIS)
