Congratulations to CDT SGT Allen (Year 10) who has been selected as one of eighteen students in NSW to attend the NSW Government Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship Tour. SGT Allen was selected following a rigorous and highly competitive application process, which included a detailed submission and a supporting reference from her History teacher, Mrs Kate Barnes.
Delivered by the NSW Government, the Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship offers a group of students the opportunity to take part in a fully funded international study tour exploring the history of Australians at war. The program is designed to extend students’ learning beyond the classroom through immersive, site-based experiences, guided by a military historian and experienced History teachers.
Along with being selected for the scholarship, SGT Allen was also awarded a Bronze level Australian Army Cadets Commendation which was presented by LT COL Craig Delaney on behalf of the COL S Hledik, Commander, NSW 2nd AAC Brigade. The presentation of the commendation was also attended by MAJ (AAC) Luke Gray, Officer Commanding, Trinity Grammar School Army Cadet Unit, MAJ (AAC) David Clancy Liaison Officer for NSW 2nd AAC Brigade.
Following in the Footsteps of History
As part of the scholarship, SGT Allen will travel to Greece and Crete during the Term 3 school holidays. The tour will take students to historically significant sites connected to Australia’s involvement in the Second World War, including major battlefields, war memorials, museums and Commonwealth War Cemeteries. Highlights of the itinerary include visits to locations such as Thermopylae, Thebes and the battlefields of Rethymno, where students will gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of Australian service personnel.
Commemorating a Significant Anniversary
The 2026 tour coincides with the 85th anniversary of the Greece and Crete campaigns of 1941, in which more than 17,000 Australians served. This context provides a particularly meaningful backdrop for students as they learn about the courage, endurance and sacrifice of those involved.
