45 students successfully completed a combined practice and qualifying Adventurous Journey as part of their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
Over four days, the girls explored the Nowra and Shoalhaven region on a challenging ‘pack and paddle’ expedition. Combining hiking and canoeing, they carried all their equipment throughout the journey while applying and further developing their navigation, campcraft and expedition skills.
The expedition provided opportunities for students to challenge themselves in unfamiliar environments, work collaboratively and demonstrate independence. While weather conditions were mixed, with some overnight rain, the group was rewarded with clear skies, memorable campfire evenings and opportunities to observe local wildlife, including wombats and kangaroos.
Building Skills for Life
A key component of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is the Adventurous Journey, which encourages young people to develop confidence, self-reliance, perseverance and leadership through shared outdoor experiences. Participants plan, prepare for and undertake an expedition as a team, learning valuable life skills that extend well beyond the classroom.
Throughout the journey, the girls demonstrated resilience, enthusiasm and a strong commitment to supporting one another. Their positive attitude and teamwork were evident as they navigated challenges together and celebrated their achievements along the way.
A Significant Silver Award Milestone
Completion of the Adventurous Journey marks a significant milestone in the Silver Award. Many of the girls are now nearing completion of their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and are already looking forward to progressing to the Gold Award. Congratulations to all students involved on this outstanding achievement.
