The 2026 Basketball season was a rewarding one for Meriden, with 12 teams across Years 7-12 demonstrating impressive growth, development and teamwork throughout the competition. Beyond their achievements on the court, students formed new friendships, strengthened their sense of belonging and proudly represented the School.
Several teams achieved outstanding results during the Term 2 season. Meriden 8, Meriden 11 and Meriden 12 completed undefeated seasons to claim first place in their respective divisions, while Meriden 5 enjoyed a strong campaign, finishing as runners-up. Meriden’s Senior Firsts also competed admirably in the highly competitive S01 division, securing fifth place, while the Junior Firsts finished sixth in J01.
Congratulations to Lily (Year 12), who was selected for the IGSA Representative Team and competed at the NSWCIS Championships in the Under 19 division. Congratulations also to Sophia (Year 10) and Ella (Year 9), who were named shadow players for the Under 16 team.
Developing Talent Beyond Competition
Students in Meriden’s High Performance Squad also participated in a series of friendly fixtures organised by Reddam House during Terms 1 and 2. Demonstrating exceptional determination and skill, the team competed against players up to five years their senior and secured victory in the final match, finishing with a 46-42 win.
Led by Head Coach Bruce Bolden, students further developed their skills through basketball clinics held during the Term 1 and Term 2 school holidays. These clinics provided valuable training and development opportunities, and Meriden looks forward to continuing to offer them throughout the remainder of the year.
The Basketball program continues to go from strength to strength, with exciting opportunities ahead. The introduction of the High Performance Squad and Future Prospect Squad will provide selected students with additional weekly training and opportunities to compete in 3×3 Hustle tournaments, further developing their skills, confidence and passion for the game.
