Celebrating Musical Achievements Across Meriden

From the joyful Junior School production of A Hint of Snow White to outstanding AMEB results and inspiring ensemble performances, Meriden students have continued to demonstrate exceptional musical talent and dedication. Congratulations to all students whose passion for music enriches our vibrant school community.
Junior School Musical: A Hint of Snow White

The Junior School delighted audiences with A Hint of Snow White, a hilarious and heartfelt retelling of the classic fairytale. More than 150 Year 5 and 6 girls came together to bring the vibrant kingdom of Duluxumbourg to life, where the mischievous Queen Malodorous schemes, Snow White shines and the Dream Team saves the day. From enchanting forest creatures and fairies to courtiers, quirky cronies and magical mirrors, every performer contributed to a production bursting with energy, humour and joy.

Beyond the performances, the musical provided students with valuable opportunities to build friendships, develop confidence and work collaboratively. Sienna (Year 5), a member of the Mirror Ensemble, reflected on the friendships she formed throughout rehearsals: “Getting to know new people was really exciting, because I didn’t know these people before. During rehearsals, our connections got stronger and I got to know more about them. It was then such fun getting to perform with these new friends.”

For Matilda (Year 6), who played Digger from the Dream Team, seeing the audience respond to the performance was a highlight. She explained that “being in front of the audience and seeing them smile, especially the younger kids, was amazing”, adding that their reactions helped her overcome her nerves.

Natasha (Year 5), who played Snow White, found the final bows particularly moving. Reflecting on the experience, she shared how much the cast had grown from the first rehearsal to the final performance. She also learnt to embrace mistakes as a natural part of acting, developing the confidence to adapt and incorporate them into a scene. Natasha expressed her gratitude for the “supportive, generous and kind teachers” who guided the cast throughout the production.

Congratulations to all the girls involved in A Hint of Snow White, and thank you to the parents who supported them behind the scenes. A huge thank you also goes to the Music Department and Junior School staff for their dedication, creativity and care in bringing this wonderful production to life.

Amadeus Concert

Meriden’s final Amadeus concert of the year showcased an impressive range of musical works by composers including Chopin, Ravel, Brahms, Debussy, Bach and Beethoven. Students demonstrated their musical development and dedication through a series of exceptional performances. A special mention to some of the newest Amadeus members in Year 7 who performed with confidence.

Congratulations to the following students on their performances and commitment to music throughout the year:

  • Year 7: Juliet, Ciara and Tina
  • Year 8: Alice and Irene
  • Year 9: Elsa, Samantha and Julie
  • Year 10: Kayla and Symphony
  • Year 11: Tina
Outstanding AMEB Achievements

Two Amadeus students achieved outstanding results in their Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) examinations. Kayla (Year 10) achieved her AMus A Diploma in alto saxophone, while Catherine (Year 8) achieved her LMus A Diploma in piano. These accomplishments reflect their musical ability, dedication and commitment to developing their craft. Congratulations to both students on these exceptional achievements.

The Combined Schools’ Choral Festival

Meriden students recently joined performers from Abbotsleigh, PLC Sydney, Monte Sant’ Angelo, Wenona, Queenwood, King’s, Saint Ignatius and St Luke’s for the Combined Schools’ Choral Festival at St James’ Church on King Street.

The evening featured a program of chamber works before concluding with a performance of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. The orchestra, made up predominantly of Meriden students and supported by organist Cynthia (Year 11), played a significant role in bringing the collaborative performance to life. The festival provided a valuable opportunity for students to perform alongside musicians from other schools and contribute to a memorable celebration of choral and orchestral music.
