HSC Music Recital
The HSC Music Recitals were a wonderful celebration of our Year 12 musicians as they prepare for their final performance examinations. Across two evenings, students studying Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension presented selections from their HSC performance programs, showcasing the breadth of their musical talents.
Thursday night’s recital featured a diverse range of styles, including contemporary works, musical theatre, jazz and opera, as well as performances on the veena, a traditional Indian string instrument, and the tabla. Friday night’s program highlighted Australian compositions alongside a variety of chamber music performances, demonstrating both collaborative musicianship and solo virtuosity.
Behind each performance were months of dedication, preparation and rehearsal with accompanists, band members and chamber ensembles. Our 28 HSC music students have worked diligently to refine their technique and artistry under the guidance of their music teachers and instrumental and vocal tutors. We congratulate them on the outstanding musicianship displayed throughout the recitals and wish them every success in their HSC performance examinations.
Outstanding Results at the Ryde Eisteddfod
Congratulations to all students who have participated in local eisteddfods. It is wonderful to see so many chamber ensembles collaborating and embracing opportunities to perform, develop their skills and share their love of music with audiences.
At the Ryde Eisteddfod, sisters Sarah (Year 10) and Suri (Year 9) were awarded a Highly Commended in the Open Age Piano Duet section. Tina (Year 7), and Irene (Year 8) also delivered an outstanding performance, achieving first place in the 14 and Under Duos section.
Meriden Musicians Shine at the St George Eisteddfod
Several Meriden musicians recently performed at the St George Eisteddfod, achieving excellent results across a range of categories.
Samantha and Julie (Year 9) were awarded 3rd place in the Open Age Chamber Music Section. Ciara, Anna and Tina (TianTian) (Year 7), together with Irene (Year 8), received a Highly Commended award for their ensemble performance.
Violinist Julie (Year 6) enjoyed outstanding success, achieving 1st place in the Open 12 Years and Under Baroque All Strings Section, 2nd place in the Open 11 Years and Under Section, and 3rd place in the Restricted 12 Years and Under Strings Section.
Sydney Eisteddfod Success
Savannah (Year 12) recently achieved outstanding success at the Sydney Eisteddfod, placing 1st in the Piano (Any Age) event. She was also selected as a Reserve Finalist for the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod Kawai Senior Piano Scholarship for 17 to 26-year-olds. These accomplishments are a testament to Savannah’s exceptional talent, dedication and musicianship.
Musica Viva – Strike a Chord
Congratulations to members of our Flute and Clarinet Ensembles who represented Meriden at the Musica Viva Strike-A-Chord Competition.
Ella (Year 9), Amelia (Year 10), and Katie (Year 7) were awarded Highly Commended for their flute trio performance. The Clarinet Ensemble, comprising Elly (Year 9), Selina (Year 8), Mariah (Year 9), Lillian (Year 9), Ameeshi (Year 11), Chelsea (Year 7) and Merry (Year 9), also achieved excellent results, receiving an Achievement Award.
