This year, many of our Junior School students embraced the opportunity to participate in the 2026 WriteOn competition, the NSW Premier’s annual writing challenge for young authors. Writing provides students with a great opportunity to share their ideas, imagination and unique perspectives.
Open to students in Years 1 to 6 studying the NSW syllabuses, the competition challenged students to create an imaginative text of up to five hundred words in response to the provided stimulus, ‘It was a small thing, but it made a difference.’ Entries were judged on students’ ability to develop a clear theme, demonstrate creativity and use language effectively to engage readers and create atmosphere.
It was wonderful to see the creativity, effort and enthusiasm demonstrated by all students who took part in the competition. Their stories reflected a wide range of ideas and showcased the growing confidence and skill of our young writers.
Congratulations to our three finalists: Victoria (Year 2), Melissa (Year 4) and Natasha (Year 5). Their entries were selected to progress to the next stage of the competition and represented our school with distinction.
We are also pleased to share that Victoria received a Silver Award and Melissa received a Bronze Award at the official awards ceremony held at the State Library of NSW. Victoria and Melissa’s entries have been published in The Best of WriteOn anthology, giving students the opportunity to see their work recognised and shared with a wider audience.
We congratulate Victoria, Melissa and Natasha on their achievements and thank all students who participated in this year’s competition. We are proud of the commitment, creativity and love of writing demonstrated by every student who entered.
