Girls give Meriden’s best-ever performance at IGSSA Championships

Isabellah and Genevieve with the Kay Couldwell Cup for Most Improved School

Meriden’s Athletics Team proved to be the highest-performing team in the School’s history at the IGSSA Track and Field Championships with the girls leading the School to place fifth overall. As a result, Meriden was awarded the Kay Couldwell Cup for Most Improved School, an acknowledgement of extraordinary development of the team, which placed twelfth in the competition just last year.

One highlight of the day was taking out first place in the Junior Relay with a blistering performance that saw all four girls streak away from their competitors to allow Ellen Murphy to cross the finish line way ahead of the pack. Ellen Murphy was also named Overall Junior Champion after winning each of the five events she entered. To top off the great results, Meriden was awarded first place in Division 2, eleven personal bests were achieved overall and Nakiesha Brimble, Milan Ji and Hayley Spence all won individual events.
