Meriden’s Athletics Team has continued its remarkable run of success, securing a fifth consecutive podium finish at the IGSA Track and Field Championships. The team celebrated a number of successes including four new IGSA records, trophies for the Senior Relay and Senior Division winners and twenty-three personal best performances.

For the fifth successive year, Meriden’s Athletics Team has secured a podium finish at the IGSA Track and Field Championships, claiming second place for the point score (excluding para-athletes’ points) and third place overall all.

Championship Highlights

One of Meriden’s most successful championships, the highlights included four new IGSA records, trophies for the Senior Relay and Senior Division winners and twenty-three personal best performances.

Outstanding results were achieved across all age divisions. The Senior Team claimed the Division One title and successfully defended the Senior Relay trophy, setting a new IGSA record in the process. The Intermediate team finished second overall, while the Junior Team secured an impressive third place finish.

Across the championships, Meriden athletes won nine gold, thirteen silver, and nine bronze medals, with a further nineteen students qualifying as finalists. The team’s strength and depth were on display throughout the day, with victories in individual events and top three placings in all three relay events.

Celebrating Individual and Team Success

Several athletes delivered record-breaking performances. Annika (Year 7) broke the 13 Years 200m record and Junior 400m record with personal best times of 24.98 seconds and 55.94 seconds respectively. Eleni (Year 9) also achieved a personal best performance breaking the Junior Discus record with a throw of 42.61m.

The record-breaking Senior Team comprised Emmanuella (Year 12), Bronte (Year 12), Prapthi (Year 11) and Olivia (Year 11). Notably, Emmanuella, Bronte and Olivia now hold IGSA records in both the Junior and Senior Relay events, having also been members of Meriden’s record setting Junior Team in 2022.
