Junior School Snowsport Athletes Shine at Sydney Interschools Championships

A record 11 Junior School students represented Meriden at the Sydney Interschools Snowsport Championships, achieving outstanding individual results, team success and multiple qualifications for the NSW State Championships.

Meriden’s Junior School snowsport athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the Sydney Interschools Snowsport Championships, held at Perisher from 14 to 17 July, achieving impressive individual results and strong team success across a range of disciplines.

With snowsports continuing to grow in popularity, a record 11 Junior School girls proudly represented Meriden at this year’s championships. Throughout the four-day event, the girls demonstrated remarkable skill, determination and sportsmanship as they competed against some of the strongest young snowsport athletes in the region.

Outstanding Individual Achievements

Standout individual performances included Gemma Han, who claimed first place in the Division 6 Ski Cross event, and Jemma Hua, who was crowned Division 6 Alpine Champion.

These exceptional results reflect the dedication and hard work the girls have invested in developing their skills and preparing for competition. The girls also celebrated impressive team achievements, with Meriden finishing as the highest-scoring school in the Division 4 Snowboard Cross team category and the Division 6 Alpine and Ski Cross team categories.

These results highlight the depth of talent within the Junior School snowsport program and the girls’ ability to support one another while striving for excellence. A special thank you to Mr Benjamin Wheen (Junior School PE Teacher), who attended the championships and enthusiastically supported the girls throughout the competition.

Looking Ahead to the State Championships

The strength of the team’s performances has earned a number of students qualification for the State Championships in August, where they will compete against the best school snowsport athletes from across New South Wales.

The Meriden community congratulates all competitors on their achievements and wishes the following students every success at the upcoming State Championships:
