Young athletes at Meriden have elevated their game with new techniques and a tactical mindset, thanks to visits from Young Socceroos coach Trevor Morgan and elite netball players from the NSW Swifts.
Some of our top netballers and footballers benefitted from the guidance and expertise at these sessions as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Plus, Meriden coaches at both sessions used the opportunity for their own professional development, transforming training techniques at the top level and applying it in a school sport context.
Meriden netballers learning from the world’s best
Players from the NSW Swifts Netball team visited Meriden to participate in a netball clinic. During the session, girls had the opportunity to learn new tips and techniques from some of the world’s best netball players.
Meriden coaches, Ms Alex Campbell and Ms Shannon Campbell, led the coaching, while Swifts players supported and guided.
The students found being on court with the Swifts players practical, challenging and enjoyable. With the upcoming IGSA Netball season, the training session was especially timely, and the girls will be hoping for some fantastic results.
The day also featured a question and answer session with the Swifts players, providing our netballers insight into what it takes to become an elite athlete.
Meriden footballers develop a tactical mindset
Meriden footballers enjoyed a coaching session with Mr Trevor Morgan, who boasts a wealth of playing and coaching experience. He is currently the head coach of Australia Under 20 national football team (the Young Socceroos).
During the session, girls from the Meriden High Performance Squad learned new skills and began to develop a new tactical mindset to take to the pitch.
The Meriden Football program has been going from strength to strength under new Head Coach James Spanoudakis with the support of Mr Stelios Pikoulas, Head Coach – Strength and Conditioning, who has also worked with Mr Morgan as the Sports Scientist for the Young Socceroos.
Meriden would like to thank the NSW Swifts players and Mr Trevor Morgan for their support of Meriden Sport programs.
