Meriden dominates Tildesley once again, extending historic winning streak

Meriden’s Tennis squad has once again showcased its depth, discipline and sporting excellence, securing the IGSA Tildesley Tennis Shield for the 17th consecutive year. This extraordinary achievement reinforces Meriden’s longstanding reputation as a dominant force in the prestigious tournament, which brings together students from independent girls’ schools across Sydney.

This year’s results were outstanding across all events. Anaise Maka and Kaitlyn Poon claimed the 2026 doubles title, with Mira Arvind and Oshini Gunaratne were awarded runner’s up – a result that saw Meriden occupy the top two steps of the podium for yet another year. In singles, Aimee Jin delivered a strong performance and was announced as the runner’s up, further contributing to Meriden’s overall point average and securing our continued hold on the Tildesley Tennis Shield.

While these achievements highlight the exceptional capabilities of our elite athletes, they also reflect the strength and inclusivity of the Tennis Program. At Meriden, every student has the opportunity to enjoy tennis, whether they are picking up a racquet for the first time, playing socially or striving for elite competition. The programs comprehensive pathways support players at all stages of their development, fostering both participation and high performance.

This year, 24 students proudly represented Meriden, each contributing valuable points toward the overall team score. Their success is the result of rigorous training, dedication and a shared commitment to teamwork.

The squad competed under the expert guidance of Head Coach, Mr Brian Ly, whose leadership continues to nurture emerging talent while supporting elite performers. His coaching philosophy and consistent encouragement underpin the program’s sustained success.

Meriden congratulates all players and expresses gratitude to its coaching staff, families and supporters. We are immensely proud of our athletes, whose hard work and sportsmanship have once again ensured Meriden’s place at the top of Tildesley Tennis.

As we celebrate this remarkable 17‑year winning streak, Meriden remains committed to inspiring a love of tennis in every girl and empowering the next generation of champions.
